Norðurfjörður fjord is part of Árneshreppur in Strandir region on the Westfjords of Iceland. There is a small village there with a harbor, small shop, restaurant and accommodation.

We recommend to stop in the shop and buy food or a souvenir. The village is surrounded by tall and elegant mountains, one of which is called the Reykjaneshyrna and is easy to hike to the top, the view from the top is magnificent on a good day. It is also possible to hike Urðartind mountain, it is slightly steeper but there is a marked trail that leads to the top.

Norðurfjörður is probably most famous for the village that lies north of the fjord and is called Krossnes. Hot water comes up from the ground in the area and there you will find the most interesting location for a swimming pool. The pool is built in the year 1954 and is called Krossneslaug pool. It is located right at the shore and the view over the ocean is something else, it is the perfect place to relax after a long day. The pool is not very big but it is possible to swim in it and there is a hot tub next to it as well as changing facilities.

Directions:

Krossneslaug pool is located about 5 hours (330 km) from Reykjavík and about 2,5 hours (100 km) from the village Drangsnes. From the village take road nr. 645 heading North and then road nr. 643 to Árneshreppur. Drive to Norðurfjörður fjord, the pool is by the road.
