The village Breiðdalsvík is located by the Valley Breiðdalur in East of Iceland. There are around 140 people living in Breiðdalsvík. The next town to the South is Djúpivogur about 65 kilometres away, and to the north Stöðvarfjörður about 19 km. The valley Breiðdalur and its surroundings are mainly steep mountains and green valley with the river Breiðdalsá flowing through, famous for salmon-fishing.

There is a good camping ground in Jórvíkurskógur forest. There is also good accommodation in Breiðdalur including hotel, hostels and guesthouses as well as café and restaurants. The main activities for tourists in the area are horseback riding, fishing, bird watching and hiking.
