Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon and Fjallsárjökull glacier are located in the south part of the Vatnajokull glacier, between Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon in the east and the Skaftafell in the west.

The Fjallsjökull falls down from the South East hills of Öræfajökull glacier (2109 m high). The glacier is steep and has a lot of cracks or glacial crevasses. By the front of the glacier is a lagoon, estimated to be around four square kilometres, it has formed because of the melting of the glaciers for the last decades and it is growing quite fast.

The surroundings is very beautiful with the glacier lagoon and floating icebergs, the steep hills and the Öræfajökull glacier and the black sand area in front.

The Icelandic rock band Kaleo did produce the music video for the song Save yourself on an iceberg floating on the Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon.

Be Safe

Even though it would make a great Instagram photo it is not wise to be climbing on the icebergs or swimming in the lake. The lagoon can be dangerous, sometimes the ice breaks away from the icebergs or they tip over and it can happen very fast. We don't really have to explain the situation if someone is swimming in the lake when that happens.
