Icelandic artist Bjork will take part in a one-day solar eclipse festival in Hafnarfjordur this summer, as Iceland prepares for one of the country's most anticipated events of 2026.
The event, Echolalia - Solmyrkvahatid Bjarkar & Smekkleysu, is scheduled for Wednesday, 12 August 2026, at Vidistadatun in Hafnarfjordur. Bjork is listed for a DJ set, alongside Arca, Ronja and Sideproject, with more names expected to be announced.
Tickets are being sold through Tix, with prices listed from 14,990 ISK. The ticket page says admission includes access to Bjork's exhibition at the National Gallery of Iceland and a pair of custom solar eclipse glasses.
The festival coincides with the total solar eclipse visible from parts of Iceland on 12 August 2026. According to the event information, visitors at Vidistadatun will experience totality for about one minute and four seconds, while the wider effect of the eclipse will last around two hours.
The celebration also marks the 40th anniversary of Smekkleysa, the Icelandic arts collective and label closely connected to Bjork's early career. The event follows Bjork's long-running Manakvold evenings, where she has invited international and Icelandic artists to perform and DJ under the moon.
The concert announcement comes as Bjork is also making headlines in Icelandic entertainment media. Morgunbladid's Smartland reported on 9 July that Bjork has a new girlfriend.
For travelers, the main practical news is the Hafnarfjordur event itself. The solar eclipse is expected to draw strong interest in Iceland in August 2026, and visitors planning to attend events around the capital area should book accommodation and transport early.
