According to Icelandic media, the Icelandic Tourist Board believes Háifoss could become one of the most popular stops for international visitors in the coming years, partly because the waterfall appears in the newest and final season of Stranger Things. They reported a sharp rise in interest after the episode aired and have begun regular visitor counts at the site. There are also discussions about improving access, because the current road is rough and facilities are limited.
Viewers quickly noticed that the final scene was not filmed in Hawkins, Indiana, but in Iceland. Reports say the scene shows Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown) standing by the canyon at Háifoss with Granni nearby. Another report noted that Brown traveled to Iceland with the Duffer Brothers to film the final episode.
The best part is that Háifoss is not a “one-stop-only” destination. You can build a full Þjórsárdalur day around it:
If Háifoss becomes the “next big thing,” it will only stay special if visitors treat the area with care. Stay back from cliff edges, keep children close, stick to safe paths, and always check road.is before driving inland.
