Garður or “the Garden” is a small village located in southwestern Iceland on the Reykjanes peninsula. Like many other towns in Iceland Garður is a fishing village with rich fishing grounds by the shore and the main occupation of the town is fisheries and fish processing. The population of the town is around 1500 people.

The town is a paradise for outdoor and wildlife lovers. By the shore seals can often be seen swimming in the ocean and seabirds nesting in the cliffs. At Garðaskagi the old Lighthouse can be found, built in 1897 with amazing view over the ocean. For those who are interested in the history of the fishermen and the people who worked in the area make sure to check out the Historical Museum of Garður.

In town you can find a grocery store, gas station, post office and a restaurant at the old lighthouse, the perfect place to watch the sunset. The town also offers good accommodation including hotel, guesthouse and campsite with good facilities. Nearby the campsite is a swimming pool with hot tubs and just outside the town is a golf course.

Fun fact: Garður is the hometown of the lead singer of Of Monsters and Men, Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir.
