Geosea - Geothermal Sea baths by Húsavík

Geosea - Geothermal Sea baths by HúsavíkThe sea baths by Húsavík are a beautiful place to take a bath and relax. The Geosea bath is located on the Húsavíkurhöfði cliff next to the harbour. It gets the geothermal water from bor holes drill by the harbour in the middle of the last century, in the beginning, the water was for heating houses in Húsavík but the water that came from the bor holes was hot seawater meaning it did not work for heating houses because of the chemicals in the water.

But the water was perfect for bathing and soon the local people stating to go there they did put up a big tank by the bor hole and that was it.

The hot seawater is perfect for bathing and good for the skin, especially for people with skin problems like Psoriasis.

One year ago the Geosea facilities were built upon the top of the cliff by the lighthouse. The building fits perfectly to the surroundings and the views from the baths are like nothing else, an open view from the cliff over to the North Atlantic ocean and over the bay Skjálfandaflói. The cliffs are the home of many seabirds so you might see some Fulmars gliding around and if you are lucky you might also see some whales roaming in the ocean below. Geosea has been selected by Time magazine as one of the top 100 places to visit in 2019

The water in the baths has no added chemicals and there is a constant water flow through the baths making it always warm and clean. The temperature is around 36 to 38°C and you can choose between different pools.

The Geosea geothermal sea baths also have a sauna and you can buy drinks there to enjoy while relaxing in the warm water.

If you are visiting Húsavík you should stop by and enjoy
