Borgarfjörður Eystri is located on the east part of Iceland, a small fishing village with inhabitants of around 100 people. In the past people there have been living from sheep farming as well as fishing. The next town is Egilsstaðir about 70 kilometers away. 

The area around the town has great nature and surroundings and therefore the perfect place for nature exploring, like bird life as well as hiking the mountain Dyrfjöll, the area Stórurð and the nearby fjords. The area has become a paradise for hikers with marked hiking trails from 1 hour to a full day. For the past years it has been building up a bird watching culture there with a good facilities for bird watching especially if people want to see the Puffin from short range.

In Borgarfjörður Eystri you can find accommodation including Guesthouses, Mountain Huts and Camping Ground as well as Álfacafé (The Elf Café).
