Description

Experience the spectacular variety of Iceland’s South Coast, where powerful waterfalls, glacier-capped volcanoes and sweeping black-sand shores create a new highlight around every bend.

The route brings together Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara and Vík, creating a beautifully varied day of natural wonders and memorable viewpoints. A private format adds a comfortable pace, personal attention and room to enjoy the views without rushing from one highlight to the next.

Skógafoss and Reynisfjara follow, with the actual order adjusted to weather, light and road conditions. Midnight-sun colour is a natural event and cannot be guaranteed, but the near-continuous daylight allows sightseeing well into the evening.

The group has private transport and a knowledgeable driver-guide. Food is not included; the guide can recommend stops, or guests can bring a packed meal.

Itinerary

1

Reykjavík pickup

Start of the day

Meet your guide and settle in for a scenic journey as Reykjavík gives way to open farmland, volcanic ridges and the glacier-capped mountains of South Iceland.

2

Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi

Waterfalls below old sea cliffs

Seljalandsfoss plunges about 60 metres from an ancient sea cliff in a slender curtain of water. Its unforgettable feature is the pathway that curves behind the cascade, opening a remarkable view through the falling water towards the South Iceland lowlands.

3

Eyjafjallajökull corridor

Volcano and glacier views

Travel beneath the famous ice-capped volcano while the guide explains the landscape shaped by eruption and meltwater.

4

Skógafoss

Broad 60-metre waterfall

Skógafoss combines raw power with classic South Iceland scenery: a 60-metre cascade, moss-covered cliffs and a vast open foreground. From the foot of the falls it feels immense; from above, the view stretches across the lowlands to the sea.

5

Reynisfjara

Black sand and basalt coast

Reynisfjara is a spectacular meeting of jet-black sand, geometric basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising from the North Atlantic. The wild surf gives the beach its unforgettable energy, but sneaker waves are powerful and unpredictable—always follow the warning lights and your guide’s instructions.

6

Return to Reykjavík

Westbound finish

Settle back for the westbound drive, with time to revisit the day’s glacier, waterfall and coastal highlights as the road returns to Reykjavík.

Private Midnight Sun South Coast Tour – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of a private South Coast tour?

Your party travels with a driver-guide focused on your group, allowing a more personal pace around the South Coast's waterfalls, black beaches and glacier scenery.

Can the itinerary be adjusted for our group?

A private format allows flexibility within the route, daylight, road conditions and the booked duration. Discuss priorities with the operator before departure.

Which South Coast stops are likely highlights?

Exact stops depend on your selected product, but the route is built around the landscapes listed in the itinerary, often including waterfalls, volcanic coast and black-sand viewpoints.

Where does a private tour begin?

Your booked option confirms whether collection is included and where it operates. The final timing and details are shown on your voucher.

How should we dress for the South Coast?

Bring warm layers, waterproof outerwear and sturdy shoes. Wind and spray at coastal stops can make the day feel colder than in the city.

Your driver-guide follows current road and weather conditions and may adjust the plan to keep the experience safe and worthwhile.
