Description

Spend ten hours exploring Snæfellsnes by private Super Jeep, with broad pick-up coverage, local guiding and a detailed route through coast, villages and lava country.

With the experience reserved for your group, the day feels relaxed and personal, leaving room for the strongest viewpoints, generous photo stops and the details that make West Iceland feel wonderfully remote.

Over about 10 hours, each change in landscape adds a new chapter, making this an excellent choice for travellers who want more than a quick viewpoint tour.

This ten-hour private day uses a Super Jeep for comfort, road presence and access to permitted rougher routes. It is not a licence to drive outside legal roads or tracks; the driver-guide selects safe, lawful access for the conditions.

The published route is unusually detailed, moving through Borgarnes and Olkelduvatn to Ytri Tunga, Arnarstapi, Londrangar, Djupalonssandur, Hellissandur, Kirkjufell and Berserkjahraun. Lunch is planned at Arnarstapi and purchased separately.

Pick-up is available from listed accommodation in Reykjavík, Reykjanes, Akranes or Borgarnes. The minimum age is six, and the exact address and time are confirmed on the voucher.

Itinerary

1

Accommodation pick-up

The journey begins

Meet your guide at the confirmed location and settle in for a beautiful journey west, where Reykjavík gives way to broad bays, moss-covered lava and the mountain skyline of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

2

Borgarnes

West Iceland gateway

Pause in Borgarnes, a welcoming town beside Borgarfjörður with views towards Hafnarfjall and a strong connection to Iceland’s settlement stories. It is a natural gateway between Reykjavík and the wilder landscapes of Snæfellsnes.

3

Olkelduvatn

Naturally sparkling spring water

Ölkelduvatn rises naturally carbonated and mineral-rich from the earth, offering a small but fascinating taste of the peninsula’s geology. The rustic countryside setting makes the spring an unusual local stop between larger landscapes.

4

Ytri Tunga

Golden sand and seals

Ytri Tunga is a rare golden-sand beach on a peninsula better known for dark volcanic shores. Harbour and grey seals often rest on the rocks offshore, adding a wonderful wildlife moment to the wide coastal views.

5

Arnarstapi

Basalt cliffs and ocean arches

Explore the spectacular shore at Arnarstapi, where lava cliffs plunge into the sea and waves surge through sculpted arches. Fishing-village history, mountain views and dramatic coastal geology all meet in one memorable stop.

6

Londrangar and Djupalonssandur

Volcanic towers above the Atlantic

See Lóndrangar’s dark volcanic pinnacles standing high over the ocean, remnants of an ancient crater shaped by centuries of wind and waves. The surrounding coast feels wild, spacious and unmistakably Icelandic.

7

Hellissandur

Art and fishing heritage

Hellissandur combines a long fishing history with colourful contemporary street art at the edge of Snæfellsjökull National Park. Ocean views and the glacier-volcano backdrop give the small village a distinctive creative character.

8

Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss

Iceland’s iconic mountain

Discover the unmistakable outline of Kirkjufell above the sea, then enjoy the celebrated view from Kirkjufellsfoss. Mountain, waterfall and broad fjord scenery come together here in one of Snæfellsnes’s defining landscapes.

9

Berserkjahraun

Lava, colour and saga

Berserkjahraun spreads between colourful mountains and quiet fjords in a maze of ancient lava. Its wild beauty is matched by one of West Iceland’s most memorable saga tales, linking love, betrayal and landscape.
