Description

A private 10-12 hour taxi-format peninsula tour for up to six guests, with flexible photo stops and a clear core route through the national-park coast.

With the experience reserved for your group, the day feels relaxed and personal, leaving room for the strongest viewpoints, generous photo stops and the details that make West Iceland feel wonderfully remote.

The result is a beautifully varied journey with strong scenery, engaging local context and plenty of moments that feel unmistakably Icelandic.

This private taxi-format tour is for one to six guests and normally takes 10-12 hours. It offers more control over photo stops, comfort breaks and walking pace than a shared sightseeing coach.

The named core route includes Arnarstapi, Lóndrangar, Djúpalónssandur, Snæfellsjökull and Kirkjufell. In summer, Sönghellir may be added when the road is suitable; a Vatnshellir lava-cave visit requires separate admission and advance arrangements.

Private pick-up and return in Reykjavík are included. Meals are purchased separately, and extra stops are added only when they fit the main route and a safe return time.

Itinerary

1

Reykjavík accommodation pick-up

The journey begins

Begin at the pickup point shown on your voucher, then watch the landscape open into West Iceland’s coastal plains, lava country and distant glacier-capped mountains.

2

Arnarstapi

Basalt cliffs and ocean arches

Arnarstapi’s coastline is carved into basalt columns, caves and natural arches by the full force of the Atlantic. A scenic walk reveals seabird cliffs, the famous Gatklettur arch and sweeping views beneath Snæfellsjökull.

3

Sönghellir, conditions permitting

The singing cave

Sönghellir is a small lava cave renowned for its remarkable echo, where voices seem to multiply inside the rock. Set beneath Snæfellsjökull, it adds folklore, playfulness and an intimate volcanic detail to the mountain landscape.

4

Lóndrangar

Volcanic towers above the Atlantic

The twin basalt towers of Lóndrangar rise like a ruined castle above the Atlantic, surrounded by lava fields and seabird cliffs. Nearby Malarrif adds open coastal views and a striking lighthouse beneath Snæfellsjökull.

5

Djúpalónssandur

Black pebbles and maritime legends

Djúpalónssandur opens onto a beautiful black-pebble cove beneath Snæfellsjökull, reached through fantastically shaped lava. Smooth lifting stones, shipwreck remains and powerful ocean views preserve the stories of the fishing crews who once worked here.

6

Optional Vatnshellir

Journey beneath the lava

Descend into Vatnshellir, an ancient lava tube hidden beneath Snæfellsjökull National Park. Guided by helmet light, discover colourful minerals, sculpted rock and the extraordinary underground passages left by an eruption thousands of years ago.

7

Lunch break

A taste of West Iceland

Pause for a relaxed meal and enjoy Icelandic flavours in a welcoming local setting. This convivial break adds warmth and character to the day while offering time to share impressions of the peninsula’s remarkable landscapes.

8

Kirkjufell

Iceland’s iconic mountain

Kirkjufell rises in a beautifully distinctive cone beside Grundarfjörður, with Kirkjufellsfoss creating the classic mountain-and-waterfall view. Changing light, reflections and coastal weather make this one of Iceland’s most rewarding photo stops.

9

Return to Reykjavík
