Glanni is a waterfall in Norðurá river in Norðurárdal close to the university Bifröst. The waterfall is rather small and the colour of the water is this white milky colour. It is located close to Grábrókarhraun lava field, the surroundings are very beautiful and it is believed to be the home of elves and trolls.

The hike to the waterfall is short and easy. There are well marked paths that lead to a viewing deck and are easy to follow. It is possible to go close to the edges of the river in some places to get a good view over the waterfall, but be careful! The surface might be loose and can break away anytime.

Nearby the waterfall is Paradise Hollow, a small but beautiful oasis where it is ideal to have a picnic. Just a few minute walk from the waterfall you will find this dark blue, turquoise, clear pond surrounded with birch grown lava field.

Directions

From Reykjavík the waterfall is about 1 hour and 20 minute drive away (98 km). Take Ring Road nr. 1 and just before the university Bifröst make a right turn where the sign says Glanni. Drive few meters until you see a parking lot and walk from there.
